With the economy still mired in a recession, many men have had to put off their engagement plans because they simply could not afford a ring. But in the information age, some of us know that there is always a better, cheaper alternative… it’s just a matter of finding it.

And when it comes to engagement rings , diamond or otherwise, one of the best places to look is at an overseas estate or antique jewellery sale. In addition to locating low price items, it is also possible to find intricate, exotic and original designs that have a touch of history and class.

How do they work? Estate or antique jewellery sales are arranged by local owners and dealers who personally choose the jewellery they want to sell. Of course, the most popular engagement rings are traditional diamond rings, but other popular choices include antique emerald and ruby rings as well gem encrusted pendants and earrings.

But is used jewellery okay? For some strange reason, most men are under the impression that women want new jewellery and engagement rings or nothing at all. But this is not the case. As you may know, most women love a romantic story and a happy ending, and there is nothing more romantic than a beautiful antique engagement ring with an interesting back story.

Where do these rings come from? Well, in recent years brokers and dealers have been doing business mostly in Middle Eastern and Asian countries like Afghanistan. There they can often secure great prices for interesting antique rings and jewellery.
